Surface Qualification of 3D printed parts (simple and complex geometries)

To address the poor surface quality of 3D printed parts, this research theme develops innovative low-cost and eco-friendly solution-based post-surface treatments to significantly improve the external and internal surface quality of complex AM parts (metal and polymers). In E-CAM, we devise solution-based electrochemical methods like chemical polishing, electropolishing, anodizing, and electroplating (coating) that can easily access complex internal and multifaceted surfaces of 3D printed parts to enhance surface quality and can be easily adopted by industry. To facilitate the successful transfer of knowledge and/or technology to our stakeholders, the developed methodology is being transferred to our industry partners. We develop customized green solutions in our lab to qualify the internal surfaces of complex geometries, which is a real step forward using sustainable and eco-friendly approaches aligned with the E-CAM mission.
