Sensors and Wearables for Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Health Monitoring

With the integration of nanotechnology and additive manufacturing, unique possibilities for developing advanced nanocomposite materials that leverage a diverse set of material properties and additional functionalities, have come into scope. To this end, this research theme focuses on integrating a variety of nanomaterials (e.g. carbon nanotubes, noble metal nanoparticles, etc.) into low cost AM to design and fabricate multifunctional, recyclable nanocomposite components for next-generation functional devices such as sensors. The role of multi-fillers in such nanocomposites is not currently well understood with respect to their end-use properties and recyclability, which are disclosed in this research theme to fabricate high performance and multifunctional nanocomposite AM parts. One of the main applications that this research is following is developing advanced, highly sensitive wireless bio-nanosensors to detect cancer and for health monitoring applications.
